LAW 676: Civil Practice Clinic
Introduction to civil law practice gained by representing clients through the Vanderbilt Legal Clinic, a legal aid office located in the Law School building. Students are supervised by clinical faculty during all stages of representation, from initial interviews through trials and appeals. The course emphasizes the techniques of client interviewing and counseling; fact-finding and formal discovery; negotiation; trial and administrative advocacy; and the role of the lawyer in the legal system. Either or both semesters may be taken. Three credit hours are awarded for the first semester in which the student is enrolled, which includes a series of introductory classes on the lawyering process and relevant issues of substantive law and procedure. Pass/Fail. Enrollment limited. [3 credit hours]
LAW 728: Civil Practice Clinic – Advanced
Two credit hours are awarded for an optional second semester. Maximum credit of five Clinic credits. Pass/Fail. Faculty approval required. [2 credit hours]
