Kyong S. Choi, Class of 2007Associate, Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis Undergraduate: Centre College (government, psychology) Kyong Choi joined Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis' Nashville office after graduation in 2007 after spending part of summer 2006 as a summer associate with the firm. He developed an interest in real estate law during his 1L year, and he's joined Waller's real estate practice. Kyong, who was captain of the debate team as an undergraduate, served as president of Vanderbilt University's Korean Students & Scholars Association while in law school. "Vanderbilt is a great school with international appeal in an exciting, growing city, and everyone is friendly," he says. "During my first semester of law school, I was staying up late in the computer lab typing up U.C.C. for my Contracts final. Another student from my class -- I had never talked to her before -- came up , asked what I was doing and said, ‘Oh, I already did that. Let me send mine to you.' That saved me four hours. And that was the typical attitude at Vanderbilt." He interned with the Office of Legal Counsel in the Tennessee Governor's office in 2005 and served as a volunteer intern at the Federal Public Defender's office. During the school year, he was active in the American Constitution Society, Legal Aid Society, and Law and Business Society. “The quality of the professors and teaching are second to none," he says. "Most professors have an open-door policy; I’ve gone to talk to professors about legal questions and career guidance. And the staff at the Career Services has been amazing. From individual attention -- talking to me first so that the staff can know me individually, checking my resume, providing mock interviews -- and group attention, including discussions about different careers and how to get them, and OCI (on-campus interviews), they were fantastic.” |
