Scott Tift, Class of 2008Soon after joining Bass Berry & Sims in Nashville as an associate, Scott Tift was named to the board of the Nashville chapter of the American Constitution Society. Scott's early involvement in the local legal community continues a trend he demonstrated at Vanderbilt, where he became active in the Legal Aid Society as a 1L and ultimately became its executive director, served as vice president of the VLS Ambassadors, coodinated Vanderbilt's Moot Court competition, was a student member of the Harry Phillips American Inn of Court, and was a member of the trial advocacy society. Scott, who majored in history and literature at Columbia University before serving as a regional field director for Howard Dean's presidential campaign and as a member of former President Bill Clinton's scheduling and advance staff, spent his 1L summer as an intern in the Tennessee Governor's Office of Legal Counsel. "I chose Vanderbilt because I wanted to attend a top law school where the students enjoy their experience," he recalls. "I was confident that the academic experience at any number of schools would be roughly equivalent, but it seemed like I would be able to enjoy learning at Vanderbilt. That was definitely true.” One advantage Vanderbilt offers that many prospective students overlook is its recently renovated building, Scott says. “Our facility is very nice, and that’s actually pretty important," he says. "You will spend a lot of time within the walls of the law school building, and it’s important that all of that time passes in a comfortable, well-equipped, recently-renovated building.”
