Henry Shuchao Gao was recently appointed by the World Trade Organization (WTO) as a member of the Advisory Board of the WTO Chairs Program, which was established by the WTO recently to promote research and teaching on WTO issues in universities around the world. Henry is now a tenured Associate Professor at the School of Law of Singapore Management University, where he has been teaching since 2008. A leading scholar on China's involvement in the WTO and free trade agreements (FTA), he has been advising the Chinese government and many other international organizations, including the World Bank, the APEC, and the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Posted 10-31-09 Kenneth Sanney left his Nashville-based law practice as an entertainment attorney and an appointment as an adjunct professor in Middle Tennessee State University’s Recording Industry Department to accept a fulltime tenure-track assistant professorship at Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, where he teaches in the Finance & Law Department of the College of Business Administration. Posted 2-21-09. Julie Keeton Bracker recently became a partner at Bothwell, Bracker & Vann in Atlanta, Georgia. The company is one of the only firms in the United States focusing exclusively on False Claims Act whistleblower litigation and is a national leader in establishing, protecting and expanding the False Claims Act and its qui tam provisions. Julie and her husband, Will, celebrated the birth of their second child, Matthew Bayless, in December 2008. Matthew joined a sister, four-year-old Catherine Carroll. Posted 11-21-08. Matt Festa has been appointed Assistant Professor of Law at South Texas College of Law in Houston. Matt's research and teaching focus is property and land use law. Matt taught at South Texas as a visiting professor during the 2007-08 school year. He previously taught at the University of Georgia School of Law. Immediately after earning his law degree at Vanderbilt, he joined Locke Liddell & Sapp as an associate based in Houston. Sara is a graduate of Georgia State University where she earned a bachelor of arts degree in speech communication in 2003 and a master of education degree in communication disorders in 2006. She is employed by the Atlanta Speech School as a speech-language pathologist. Perry graduated summa cum laude from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1996, where he received a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering. He is employed by the law firm of Fish and Richardson as a patent attorney. The newlyweds honeymooned in Hawaii and reside in Decatur, Georgia. Prior to his time at Walker Tipps, Farringer served as law clerk to District Court Judge Thomas Wiseman. His work at Sherrard will focus on contract issues, tort actions, and share holder litigation. Lillian Roe Gilmer has joined Reno & Cavanaugh's newly opened Nashville office. She was previously an associate with Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis in Nashville. Heather McNew Carter and her husband Joel Carter ('01) announced the birth of their first child, Griffin Bryant Carter, on October 10, 2007. Elizabeth Lineberger Tarumianz and husband Jeff announced the birth of their son, Jeff Edwards Tarumianz Jr., on May 14, 2007. They live in Lookout Mountain, Tennessee. Kate Pritchett has opened up her own law office in Birmingham, Alabama. Christopher Schreiber and Virginia Anne Kingman Schreiber welcomed Alden Christopher Kingman Schreiber into the world on August 1, 2007. The happy family lives in Bellevue, WA. Jason Hall was selected as one of Missouri's stand-out young attorneys by Missouri Lawyers Weekly in the publication’s 2007 "Up & Coming" list. The honorees were chosen based on achievements in their careers and dedication to improving their local communities. John Yoon has joined Baker & McKenzie in Tokyo, Japan as a professional development manager. Katherine Knight has joined the Knoxville, TN office of Baker Donelson Bearman Caldwell & Berkowitz as an associate in the Labor and Employment group, focusing on employment and employee benefits litigation. Mary Ann Miranda has accepted an offer to serve as a clerk to U.S. District Chief Judge Joseph M. Hood for the Eastern District of Kentucky in Lexington. James Geechul Lee and his wife, a professor of music at Jeonju University in Korea, have decided to relocate to London to live in a same city. James has practiced law at the New York office of Sidley Austin and the Hong Kong office of Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom. He is looking forward to practicing law in London at the Capital Market group of Clifford Chance in London. Laina Reinsmith Miller and her husband Stuart welcomed their daughter Julia Mae Miller in June 2006. Laina practices commercial litigation with Shipley Snell Montgomery in Houston. J. Perry Herndon has joined Fish & Richardson's Atlanta office as an associate in its Patents Group. Perry focuses his practice on the areas of electronic engineering, computers, and telecommunications. Prior to joining Fish & Richardson, Perry was an associate at both Alston & Bird LLP and Parks Knowlton LLC. Before attending law school, Perry was a staff analyst at BellSouth Telecommunications in Birmingham, AL. Todd Overman and Kelly (Vest) Overman are the proud parents of a precious little boy, Max Thomas Overman (13 months), and are anxiously awaiting the birth of their second son, in February. Todd is an associate at Hogan & Hartson, practicing in the area of Government Contracts, and Kelly is an associate at Ross, Dixon & Bell, practicing in the area Professional Liability Insurance. Todd and Kelly live in Arlington, Virginia, and stay in touch with many of the '02 grads in the DC area. Sean Dailey married Kerry Ducey ('01) in Carmel, California. Several members of the Classes of 2001 and 2002 were in attendance. Sean and Kerry currently live in Chicago where Sean practices commercial litigation with Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw, and Kerry practices corporate securities law with Latham & Watkins. Josh Perry, who works for Vanderbilt's Center for Biomedical Ethics and Society, and his daughter, Ivy, were featured in the June 19 edition of the Vanderbilt Register. Josh's teaching, research and writing focus broadly on the areas of bioethics, health law & policy, law & society and issues related to medical and legal professionalism. He also works with Dr. Ellen Clayton of the law and medical school faculties to mentor medical students in the medical school's Law Emphasis program. Laura Batenic McCann has relocated to Seattle from Washington, D.C. Dan Fisher is an associate in the Washington, D.C. office of Skadden Arps, focusing on M&A and corporate governance matters. Dan married Ashley Rogers, '04 in October, 2005. Ashley is an associate in the Washington, D.C. office of O'Melveny & Myers, focusing on private equity and corporate transactions. Dan and Ashley live in Arlington, Virginia, and have exciting dinner conversations focusing on developments in corporate law and practice.
Jason Hall is president of a new group, Lawyers for Equity, which is the first gay lawyers' association in St. Louis. Lawyers for Equity, which is incorporated under Missouri law and currently awaiting federal tax-exempt status, joins a growing number of specialty bar groups nationwide. Jason was featured in the business section of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "A big part of this is consciousness raising," Hall said. "It's easy for us to be marginalized in the legal profession. We want to provide an independent legal voice." Jason is an associate in the Anti-Trust and U.S. Trade Regulation practice group of Bryan Cave in St. Louis.
