Firm Giving Program
The fiscal year 2012 Firm Giving Program Campaign kicks off in late April and runs through the end of the fiscal year, June 30th. If your firm employs multiple VULS alumni and you'd like to participate, please contact the Development & Alumni Relations office via email or call 615/322-2606. Only participating firms with 100% giving among VULS alumni will be recognized on the Firm Giving Honor Roll.
The Firm Giving Program was created over a decade ago to promote continued excellence in legal education at Vanderbilt Law School. Firms with multiple Vanderbilt Law School alumni can participate by naming a Firm Representative to encourage and coordinate alumni donations with a goal toward achieving 100% giving participation.
This program’s growth has paralleled the increasing national influence of the law school. In Fiscal Year 2011 (beginning 7/1/10 and ending 6/30/11), over 1,100 alumni working at 104 firms with locations around the world participated in the program, securing vital unrestricted support for the law school. The success of this program is evident in that the giving participation rate for alumni working at participating program firms is more than twice the rate of law alumni giving overall. In fact, last fiscal year 67% of the alumni working in participating firms made a gift to the law school compared with 28% of all law alumni.
Firm participation is vital to preserving the high standards in legal education that distinguish Vanderbilt Law School from the rest of the pack. The annually published Firm Giving Honor Roll celebrates those firms who have met the challenge of 100% alumni giving participation and recognizes their commitment to the future of the law school.
Why the Firm Giving Program?
1. Increase Alumni Giving Participation
The Firm Giving Progam seeks to raise the VULS alumni participation rate. "Participation" is the percentage of law school alumni who make a gift of any amount to the law school each year. Participation is not just a statistic. It is the primary way alumni support is measured and impacts the law school's reputation. By making a gift, alumni demonstrate the value they place on their legal education and their interest in staying connected with Vanderbilt. Our participation rate is viewed as a vote of alumni satisfaction and is often considered by corporations and foundations when directing gifts to VULS. Last fiscal year (July 1, 2010 - June 30, 2011) approximately 28% of all Vanderbilt Law School alumni made a gift to the law school, which compares favorably with other top 20 law schools.
2. Promote your Law Firm, Corporation, or Organization.
Participating firms, corporations and organizations that achieve 100% participation (in at least one office location with two or more alumni) are listed on the annual VULS Firm Giving Honor Roll. Special recognition is given to those firms who achieve 100% giving among alumni at all firm locations.
The Honor Roll is also prominently displayed in the Career Services lobby and interview suite during on-campus interviews, as well as at local alumni events such as Reunion Weekend. It is also published annually in the Lawyer magazine and on the VULS website. To view the most recent Honor Roll, click here.
3. Strengthen the Vanderbilt Family Network
The program is designed to build and highlight the VULS connections that we have through many firms. The Firm Giving Program helps alumni working in different firms to unite in the common cause of supporting their alma mater.
