BiographyHarold G. Maier held the David Daniels Allen Distinguished Chair in Law until his retirement in 2006. A member of the Vanderbilt Law faculty since 1965, Professor Maier is an internationally recognized authority on the application of United States regulatory legislation to foreign business activity. He has done advanced research at the Brookings Institution and the Max-Planck Institute in Munich, FRG, and has been a visiting professor at Pepperdine, the University of Pennsylvania, George Washington University, the University of North Carolina, and the University of Georgia. He has served on the editorial board of the American Journal of International Law and is currently a member of the editorial board of the American Journal of Comparative Law. In 1983-84, he was Counselor on International Law to the Legal Adviser, U.S. Department of State, and has testified on several occasions before congressional committees and as an expert witness in domestic courts. Professor Maier founded the Vanderbilt Journal of Transnational Law and serves as its faculty advisor. He teaches courses in international civil litigation, conflict of laws, and foreign relations.
