Biography

Alex Hurder is an expert on the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act. He has written extensively on clinical legal education and disability law. He and his students represent clients in special education cases and Social Security disability appeals. He joined the law faculty and Legal Clinic in 1993, after a legal career that included substantial litigation and policy expertise in special education and disability cases. His current writing focuses on the nature of the lawyer-client relationship and the role of the lawyer in negotiation. In addition to supervising students in the live-client clinic, Professor Hurder teaches courses in Public Education Law and Legal Interviewing and Counseling. He is the chair of the American Bar Association Commission on Mental & Physical Disability Law for 2007-08. He is also co-chair of the ABA Section of Individual Rights and Responsibilities Committee on Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
