Biography
Lisa Schultz Bressman has established herself as an innovative scholar in administrative law and constitutional theory. Her most recent work attempts to combine the insights of positive political theorists with those of legal scholars to better explain and defend administrative law. Her other work explores the relationship between accountability and arbitrariness in agency decisionmaking. Her work also includes empirical analyses, such as one project done in collaboration with colleague Michael Vandenbergh, studying the agency experience with presidential control. Professor Bressman joined the Vanderbilt law faculty in 1998 after working in the Office of Legal Counsel in the Department of Justice and clerking for Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer and now-Second Circuit Judge José Cabranes. In 2006, Professor Bressman was named co-director of Vanderbilt's Regulatory Program. She teaches Administrative Law, Constitutional Law I, Government and Religion, Problems at the Interface of Tort and Regulatory Law, and Regulatory State (first-year course).
