Checking Out Materials

Only members of the Vanderbilt community may check out circulating materials. Loan periods vary (law and graduate students - 90 days, undergraduate students and alumni -  29 days, faculty  - one year). The loan period may be extended twice by renewing the checked out materials. Fines are charged for overdue books.

Reserve Materials

Reserve materials, including course reserves and exams, are housed behind the Circulation Desk. These materials may be checked out for two hours for in-library use. Fines are charged for overdue materials.

Recalling Materials

If library materials are checked out, library users may use Acorn to recall them.

Missing Books

A missing book form is available at the Circulation Desk. Staff members will search for the missing item or initiate the replacement process.

Photocopying

Self-service, card-operated machines are located near the Reference Collection on the main floor of the Library. These units add value to the copy cards using $1 bills. The photocopiers also accept coins. Copies made using a card cost $.09 per copy and copies made using cash cost $.10 per copy. Any problems with the equipment should be reported to the Circulation staff.

Study Carrels

Study carrels are located throughout the library. All library carrels have network ports that allow internet access for laptops equipped with the appropriate software and hardware, and laptop users also have access to the law school’s wireless network. Most carrels are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis to 2L and 3L students with a demonstrated need; however, all carrels are available for study use by any student when not in use. Students with reserved/assigned carrels may check out books and some non-circulating materials to their carrels.

Lost and Found

A lost and found shelf is maintained at the Circulation Desk. Please check with staff if you have misplaced something.
