Joycelyn Stevenson ’01 to serve as 2016 president of the Nashville Bar Association

Joycelyn Stevenson '01Joycelyn Stevenson, a shareholder of Littler based in the firm’s Nashville office, began her term as president of the Nashville Bar Association Jan. 1, after serving as the organization’s president-elect in 2015.

Stevenson is the first African-American woman to lead the Nashville Bar Association, which is comprised of more than 2,500 members.

Stevenson was elected to serve as the NBA’s 2016 president by members of the NBA board. Candidates must have served for at least three years on the board to be eligible to serve as president.

“I am proud to serve the NBA in this capacity and look forward to furthering its mission of education, service and fellowship,” said Stevenson. “As president, my goal is to work with our members to increase membership, enhance program offerings and further elevate the prominence of the organization throughout the region.”

An active member of the NBA since 2001, Stevenson has been involved in a number of leadership capacities within the organization. She has also held leadership positions with other organizations, including serving as president of both the Lawyers’ Association for Women in Nashville and the Council on Aging of Greater Nashville.

She was the 2015 winner of the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce and Young Professionals Nashville Emerging Leaders Award in the Legal Services category. She was selected as one of Mid-South Super Lawyers Rising Stars in 2014 and 2015, and as a Nashville Business Journal Best of the Bar honoree in 2013-2015, having previously been included in its “40 under 40” listing in 2011. In 2013, Stevenson also received the Nashville Athena Young Professionals Award.

In addition to her J.D. from Vanderbilt, she holds a B.A. from Howard University.
