Teach for America

In the law school admission process, we are always on the lookout for talented, committed, energetic people working to make a difference in the world, and we recognize those characteristics in Teach for America alumni. TFA provides a great opportunity to develop and demonstrate leadership skills that benefit the legal profession, and we encourage prospective students to take full advantage of such opportunities.

We have long offerd two-year deferrals for our admitted applicants who choose to join Teach for America prior to commencing law studies at Vanderbilt. To honor and celebrate the arrival of Teach for America corps members in Nashville in 2009, VULS has added:

• JD application fee waiver for corps members and alumni
• Merit-based $30,000 ($10,000 / 3 years) Vanderbilt Law School scholarships commending TFA service for up to three qualified TFA alumni in each entering JD class

Scholarship recipients are identified and notified during the Law School Merit Scholarship awarding process. We hope that these gestures underscore our appreciation of TFA alumni commitment to public service.
