Yellow Ribbon
Vanderbilt Law School participates in the Post-9/11 GI Bill Yellow Ribbon Program through which eligible Veterans in the J.D. program may receive tuition assistance from VULS and the government as follows:
1) Applicants admitted to the Law School are considered for merit- and need-based scholarships. About 75 percent of J.D. students receive Law School scholarships in varying amounts, and about 25 percent of students enroll with no Law School scholarships.
2) As a participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program, the Law School has committed to provide an annual scholarship of at least $6,000.00 to each post-9/11-eligible Veteran who enrolls in the J.D. program in 2010. All Law School scholarships awarded to each eligible Veteran count toward meeting this commitment. Because Law School scholarships are awarded in varying amounts, some enrolling Veterans may receive Law School scholarships of exactly $6,000.00 annually while others may receive scholarships greater than $6,000.00 annually.
3) Under the Yellow Ribbon Program, the government provides each post-9-11-eligible Veteran who enrolls in the Law School with an annual tuition benefit of exactly $6,000.00.
4) Because Law School scholarships are awarded in varying amounts, some admitted applicants may be awarded scholarship amounts less than $6,000.00 or may be awarded no scholarship. In these cases, the Law School will increase its award to $6,000.00 upon notification that the admitted student is eligible for the government Yellow Ribbon tuition benefit and intends to enroll in the Law School. In these cases, VULS and government contributions to tuition costs total $12,000.00 annually ($6,000.00 from the Law School and $6,000.00 from the government).
5) For an eligible Veteran who has been awarded a Law School scholarship greater than or equal to $6,000.00, the scholarship is provided in full and meets the Law School’s commitment under the Yellow Ribbon program. In these cases, VULS and government annual contributions to tuition costs total $12,000.00 plus the amount of Law School scholarship that exceeds $6,000.00. As an example, for an eligible Veteran who has been awarded a $10,000.00 Law School scholarship, VULS and government contributions to tuition costs total $16,000.00 annually ($10,000.00 from the Law School plus $6,000.00 from the government). For an eligible Veteran awarded a $20,000.00 Law School scholarship, VULS and government contributions to tuition costs total $26,000.00 annually ($20,000.00 from the Law School plus $6,000.00 from the government).
