Letter on Fall Submission Policy
Dear Submitting Authors,
It is the policy of the Vanderbilt Law Review to maintain approximately forty percent (five to seven articles) of our book space available for the fall 2008 submissions cycle. We recognize that an impression exists among many legal scholars that student-run journals intend to fill our books during this spring’s submission cycle. We wish to dispel that impression.
We will review fall submissions this year as thoroughly as we review spring submissions, just as we have always. This spring’s accelerated submissions cycle has strained scholars and affects us as well. We hope that restating our longstanding policy to review and accept a significant number of pieces in the fall can help return some balance to the submissions process.
We will continue to review pieces this spring and we will not arbitrarily reject a publishable piece solely because it is our practice to maintain fall submission space. But, we encourage authors still working on pieces to hold, polish, and improve those pieces that will be ready in the fall but are not ready for a spring submission.
We look forward to reviewing your work whenever we see it and all the best until then,
|

Overview
The Vanderbilt Law Review publishes six issues per year, in January, March, April, May, October, and November. The Law Review welcomes submissions of both articles and essays. We rarely publish book reviews. We publish a symposium issue every year, but we do not accept outside submissions for symposia.
The Law Review welcomes articles and essays on a wide range of legal topics, and we give serious consideration to every submission made. Authors should, however, realize that the overwhelming majority of our published articles are by law professors. Moreover, we do not publish student-written articles. The Law Review publishes at most 18 articles each year, and in the past few years has received more than 2,000 submissions per year.
Submissions
The Vanderbilt Law Review does not accept electronic submissions. We strongly prefer submissions through ExpressO. All submissions should be accompanied by a cover letter and a curriculum vitae. Submissions should conform to Bluebook format.

Expedited Reviews
The Law Review will grant expedited reviews of pieces submitted, but only if the author provides the name of the journal that has accepted his or her piece, a definite deadline for our response, and at least five days to respond. To request an expedited review, please send an email to articles.review@law.vanderbilt.edu. In addition, please attach an electronic version of your article in Microsoft Word format. Telephone requests cannot be considered.
