NSLS is a student-run organization that aims to educate and foster interest in the legal aspects of national security and to assist members in the pursuit of a career in the field of national security. As a new organization in 2009-2010, we invited legal professionals to speak on experiences that ranged from representing detainees held in Guantanamo to serving as the Legal Adviser to the National Security Council. NSLS was also active in petitioning for the addition of a National Security Law course to the VULS curriculum and in keeping its members apprised of opportunities to become involved in the study of national security and the law on campus, such as through involvement in the Terrorism: International Case Law Reporter and Genocide and Instability Prevention Symposium.
Next year, we hope to expand upon the NSLS network in the national security community by bringing to campus professionals from the United States Intelligence, Military and Law Enforcement Communities as well as representatives from academic and policy-making organizations to speak on their experiences as well as potential careers in national security.
