This organization promotes student interest in copyright, trademark, and patent law. Additionally, the organization sponsors activities in related areas including music publishing, literary property, entertainment, media, and computer law.

Drawing upon Nashville's exciting role as a center for the music and entertainment industries, VIPA (formerly PIPSO) seeks to provide a lively forum for the diverse interests of its members. Leading practitioners are invited to speak on a variety of practical and scholarly issues, and law students are encouraged to expand their knowledge beyond the classroom while making valuable contacts in the profession. Membership is open to all members of the Vanderbilt legal community.

VIPA also works with other VULS organizations such as the Entertainment & Sports Law Society to better serve the interests of participating students.
