Admission Interviews
Vanderbilt University Law School offers admission interviews to first-year J.D. applicants as part of the application for admission. Any applicant can participate in an interview, and interview evaluations are considered in the file review. Interviews are conducted nationwide and in some international locations by VLS alumni and admissions officers.
All interview requests must be submitted by December 1, 2011 for applications to the J.D. class entering in fall 2012. Interviews are conducted in four different venues:
- Trained alumni volunteers will conduct interviews in various cities nationwide and in some international cities. In these cases, requests for interviews will be forwarded to local alumni to arrange the interview directly with the applicant.
- In some cities, admissions officers and alumni will conduct multiple interviews in day-long sessions arranged by the Admissions Office. On some college campuses, visiting VLS admissions counselors will conduct multiple interviews for students and alumni of the host college. These limited interview events will be scheduled in September, October, and November.
- Applicants visiting Nashville from out of town may interview on-campus during a regular campus visit. Campus visits also include a tour of the law school and a visit to a first-year law class (when classes are in regular session). Campus visits are available Monday-Friday between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. We encourage applicants who live locally to visit campus (sit in on a class and meet with an admissions officer), and to also participate in an admission interview with a Nashville alumni interviewer.
- Applicants who are unable to visit campus and reside in locations where an in-person interview is impractical may be interviewed by telephone or teleconference (such as via Skype).
Beginning June 2011, out-of-town applicants visiting Nashville are eligible to schedule an on-campus visit and interview by calling our front desk at 615-322-6452. Applicants who live in Nashville are encouraged to visit VLS and meet with an admissions counselor at anytime, and to request an alumni interview in Nashville (using the link below).
To schedule or request an interview, you must first register with Virtual VLS.
If you have already registered with Virtual VLS, click here to schedule or request an interview in your city on or before December 1- you can schedule an interview during one of our interview days across the country this fall, or request an interview with an alumni interviewer (for you and your interviewer to schedule at a mutually agreeable time). You will be directed to another site and must log-in again with your same log-in credentials for Virtual VLS. There you will be able to view all interview options, read and accept our Admission Interview Policies, and schedule or request an interview.
