Admission Interviews

Bookmark and Share

Vanderbilt University Law School offers admission interviews to first-year J.D. applicants as an optional component of the application for admission. Any applicant can request an interview, and interview evaluations are considered in the decision-making process. Interviews are conducted nationwide and in some international locations by VULS alums, admissions officers, and current students.

All interview requests must be submitted by December 1, 2009 for applications to the J.D. class entering in fall 2010 and are based upon geographic preference. Interviews will be conducted in four different venues:

  • Any applicant can interview on campus during a regular campus visit. Campus visits also include a tour of the law school and a visit to a first-year law class (when classes are in regular session). Campus visits are available Monday-Friday throughout the admissions cycle.
  • In some cities, admissions officers and alums will conduct multiple interviews in day-long sessions arranged by the Admissions Office. These limited sessions will be scheduled in September, October, and November.
  • Trained alumni volunteers will conduct interviews in various cities nationwide and in some international cities. In these cases, requests for interviews will be forwarded to local alums to arrange the interview directly with the applicant.
  •  Applicants who are unable to visit campus and reside in locations where an in-person interview is impractical may be interviewed by telephone.
