Non-Law Elective Courses

Each semester, a limited number of non-law courses at other schools within Vanderbilt University are approved as electives eligible for credit toward the J.D. degree.

If you are not participating in an approved dual degree program, you may receive credit for up to six credit hours of graduate-level study in non-law courses taken from other schools within Vanderbilt University.

If you are participating in a dual degree programs, you are not eligible for additional non-law elective credits beyond those permitted by your program.

If you wish to take a non-law elective course other than those on the law school's approved list and earn credit toward your J.D. degree, you must submit a written petition to the Assistant Dean for Academic Life for approval. A proposed course will be approved only if you demonstrate a reasonable relationship between the course and the study of law.
