Rebecca Haw Allensworth, the David Daniels Allen Distinguished Chair in Law at Vanderbilt and a leading antitrust scholar, has launched “Monopolizer: Big Ideas in Antitrust,” a podcast on competition law and enforcement. The podcast is designed to help listeners understand why competition matters and what the law is and isn’t doing to keep the playing field level.
Hosted by Allensworth, “Monopolizer: Big Ideas in Antitrust” enlists help from some of the nation’s foremost thought-leaders in competition policy to demystify and delve into the past, present, and future of antitrust.
The first episode features Professor Eleanor Fox, the Walter J. Derenberg Professor of Trade Regulation Emerita at NYU Law. Allensworth and Fox discuss antitrust law’s dramatic sea change in the 1970s and what it can tell us about the antitrust reform movement of today.
Allensworth’s scholarship focuses on the policy and values judgments inherent in the law’s focus on consumer welfare, with a special emphasis on competition policy for tech platforms. Her work has been cited by the U.S. Supreme Court and has received the thirteenth annual Jerry S. Cohen Memorial Fund Writing Award for groundbreaking antitrust scholarship. She has advised three presidential administrations and testified twice before Congress.
