Intellectual Property Survey

An introduction to the law of patent, copyright, trademark, unfair competition, trade secret, and other regimes through which the legal system extends protection in the United States to ideas, their use, or their expression. Specific topics that may be discussed include: the applicability of copyright to the Internet; the patentability of life forms; the patentability of business models; patent trolls; and trademarks and the Internet.

Note: Taking this course will not preclude a student from later taking a course that specializes in patent, copyright or trademarks.
