A Statement on the Tragedy in Buffalo

We are horrified and heartbroken by the tragic events that took place in Buffalo. We mourn the lives lost to this heinous act of racist violence, and we send our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and their friends and communities. Once again, our country confronts the specter of racial hatred whose consequences are being felt in lives that have been shattered too soon. Once again, communities of color are reminded of the rising tide of violence and hatred, alongside the fear, hurt and isolation that this bigotry creates.

Within VLS, we are here to support members of our community that are impacted in any way. At these extremely difficult times, we are reminded of the importance of upholding our own community values and ensuring that we stand together against racial hatred, bigotry, and discrimination. Please note that there are resources are available to support faculty, staff and students. Those who need assistance to navigate these resources are always welcome to reach out to a member of the administration. As we come together in condemnation and reflection, we urge you all to take very good care of yourselves and each other.
