California Supreme Court Justice Goodwin Liu, Chief Judge Diane Wood of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, and Senior Judge Andre Davis of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit discussed their work as judges in a series of spring semester talks organized by the Branstetter Litigation and Dispute Resolution Program. In a discussion moderated by Assistant Professor of Law Ganesh Sitaraman, Justice Liu told of his failed nomination for federal judge in 2010 as well as his work on the California Supreme Court, which he joined in 2011. Chief Judge Wood cited the high cost of federal litigation while discussing her work as a federal appellate judge in an informal conversation with Suzanna Sherry, the Herman O. Loewenstein Professor of Law. Judge Davis addressed the role of social justice in criminal investigations and procedure in his talk, moderated by Christopher Slobogin, who holds the Milton R. Underwood Chair in Law.
