Michael Bressman, director of Vanderbilt Law School’s Clerkship Program, has announced that 50 recent graduates, including 39 members of the Class of 2020, are serving as judicial clerks in 2020-21 or future terms.
“I would like to celebrate members of the Class of 2020 for their extraordinary success in securing clerkships,” Professor Bressman said. “More than 21 percent of the class secured clerkships, and 16 percent are serving in federal clerkships as their first jobs after graduation.”
Recent Vanderbilt Law graduates have secured federal clerkships with appellate judges on the 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 8th and 11th Circuits; judges in district courts in 14 states—Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Nevada, New York, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Texas—and in Washington, D.C.; a bankruptcy judge in Texas; the U.S. Court of Federal Claims; and judges in state courts in Delaware, Kentucky and Tennessee.
Members of the Class of 2020 secured 35 clerkships with federal judges and six with state judges, including three in the Delaware Court of Chancery. Eleven graduates from the classes of 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 also secured clerkships in federal district and appellate courts, both before and after graduation, which they are serving in 2020-21 or future terms.
This announcement reflects clerkships for which Vanderbilt Law graduates had been hired as of July 1, 2020. Unless indicated otherwise, clerks are serving during the 2020-21 term.
