Prospective students may submit applications to the J.D. program between September 1 and April 1 each year. Applicants must hold (or expect to hold at the time of entry to the J.D. program) a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. All first-year students enroll at the beginning of the fall semester. We have no part-time or evening programs.
We'd like to meet you!
Vanderbilt strongly encourages all J.D. applicants to schedule an admission interview as part of the application process. More than 900 VLS alumni conduct in-person admission interviews in 44 states, D.C., and 15 foreign locations, and VLS admissions officers interview applicants on university campuses and in major cities from coast to coast.
Interviews arrangements must be initiated by December 1.
Applications may be submitted from September 1 through April 30 each year. Applicants must have completed (or expect to have completed at the time of entry to the LL.M. program) a law degree outside the United States. All LL.M. students enroll at the beginning of the fall semester each year.
Students are expected to have a strong mathematics background commensurate with the standards of leading Ph.D. programs in economics. Students admitted to the program will either have a J.D. or will work on the requirements for both the Ph.D. and the J.D. concurrently.
If you will have a J.D. at the time of matriculation to the Ph.D. program, complete the Law and Economics application through the Vanderbilt Graduate School.
If you will not have a J.D. at the time of matriculation, you must complete both a Law and Economics application and a J.D. application.
Vanderbilt accepts Early Action transfer applications from February 15 to April 1.
The deadline for submitting Regular Decision transfer applications is July 1.
Visiting students should submit application in late spring for the fall semester, and late fall for the spring semester. Visitors should obtain a paper JD application by printing the pdf forms or contacting the Admissions Office to request paper forms.
