Admission Interviews

Vanderbilt Law School offers admission interviews to J.D. applicants as part of the application process. We encourage all applicants to interview, and interview reports are considered during file review. Interviews are conducted nationwide and in some international locations by VLS alumni or admissions officers.

All interview requests must be submitted by December 1, 2013 for applications to the J.D. class entering in fall 2014.  You may participate in an interview before your application has been submitted, as long as you intend to apply to VLS this year.  Interviews are conducted in four ways:

1. Alumni interviews in 41 states, Washington, D.C., and 18 foreign locations: Request an In-person interview with a trained VLS alum by location, and your request will be forwarded to a local alum who will arrange the interview directly with you at a mutually agreeable time and place.

2. Admission Interview Days, Cities and Colleges (see locations below): Admissions officers and alumni conduct individual in-person interviews in day-long sessions arranged by the Admissions Office. On some college campuses, visiting VLS admissions officers conduct multiple individual interviews for students and alumni of the host college. These limited interview events are held in September, October, and November.

3. Nashville - Applicants visiting Nashville from out of town may interview on-campus during a regular campus visit. Campus visits also include a tour of the law school and a visit to a first-year law class (when classes are in regular session). Campus visits are available Monday-Friday between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. We encourage applicants who live locally to visit campus (sit in on a class and meet with an admissions officer), and to also participate in an admission interview with a Nashville alumni interviewer.

4. Skype: Applicants who are unable to visit campus and reside in locations where an in-person interview is impractical may be interviewed by Skype.

Beginning June 2013, out-of-town applicants visiting Nashville may schedule an on-campus visit and interview by calling our front desk at 615-322-6452. Applicants who live in Nashville are encouraged to visit VLS and meet with an admissions counselor at any time, and to request an alumni interview in Nashville (using the link below) between September 4 and December 1.
