Abigail Wood and Chandler Ray, both Class of 2021, won 2019 Mock Trial Competition, held at Vanderbilt Law School Feb. 15. The competition was sponsored by King & Spalding.
Wood and Ray faced finalists Brent Duddles and Michael Clark, both Class of 2021. Teams argued the fictional case of Andy Lee Park v. Hayden Duran, provided by the American Mock Trial Association, a wrongful death suit brought by the parents of 10-year-old Sydney Park against the mother of her playmate, Jesse Duran, who shot Sydney with a gun the Parks kept in their home.
Presiding judges included Geoffrey Drake ’05, a litigation partner at King & Spalding; Mark Brown Sr., the appeals operations group administrator for TennCare, Tennessee’s Medicaid program; and Richard Rosario ’20, a member of the winning 2018 Mock Trial team who now serves on the Mock Trial Executive Board.
Other members of the Mock Trial Board include 3Ls Dylan Thayer, Simina Grecu, Hayley Myers, Hydn Park, William Cox and Hailey Culhane and 2Ls Marcos de Hoyos, Nidhi George and Josh Manning. The Mock Trial Board is led by Adjunct Professor of Law Danielle Nellis.
