Visiting VLS

ALERT: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Vanderbilt University and the Law School are currently closed to visitors and Fall 2021 class visits, student-guided tours, and self-guided tours are not available until further notice. We hope to re-open to visitors soon, and in the meantime, we encourage prospective students to join us for the virtual admissions events listed below.

On-campus events: Class visits, student-guided tours and self-guided tours

Please note that the law school is currently closed to visitors due to Covid-19, and on-campus events and services for visitors are not available until further notice.

Once the school re-opens to the public, visitors can arrange to sit in on a first-year law class by making an appointment in advance, and student-guided tours will resume, normally at noon on most Fridays during the semester. To sign up to attend a class or group tour, select the date you want to visit on the admissions events calendar linked above, choose the tour/class, and fill out the registration form. 

Off-campus virtual recruiting events
Each year, representatives from VLS attend recruitment events throughout the country including Law School Fairs and LSAC sponsored events. Visit our recruiting calendar for a full list of events.

Virtual admissions events
This semester we will be offering JD and LLM Virtual Information Sessions. You can sign up for the session you are interested in attending by using the admissions events calendar linked above. Information Sessions are presentations given by an admissions officer about the law school, academic programs, Nashville, student life, etc. and provide the opportunity to prospective students to ask questions.

Downtown Nashville

By air

Nashville International Airport is less than 10 miles from campus and is served by most major airlines, including American, Continental, Delta, Frontier, Northwest, SkyWest, Southwest, United and US Airways. The Nashville Vicinity Map includes directions for driving from the airport to Vanderbilt. We suggest you allow 30 minutes driving time.

A taxi from the airport costs $25 to $30 one-way. Information on ground transportation can be found here. INShuttle charges $12 one-way between the airport and VLS or $18 round-trip when reservations are made online in advance. Uber and Lyft are also options. 

By car

Nashville is located at the intersection of three major interstates: I-40, I-65 and I-24. Nashville is approximately 4 hours from Atlanta, 3 hours from Birmingham, 3 hours from Knoxville, 3 hours from Louisville, and 3 hours from Memphis. Vanderbilt is less than 2 miles from downtown Nashville. The Nashville Vicinity Map includes driving directions to Vanderbilt University, while the Law School Vicinity Map gives specific directions to the Law School.


Visitors may park in front of the law school, located at 21st Avenue South and Grand Avenue, in parking spaces marked for visitors. Please obtain a parking pass for your vehicle from the information desk in the main hallway of the law school. Other spaces in front of the law school are permit-only parking for employees and students.

If visitor parking in front of the law school is not available, please park in the Terrace Place Garage at the corner of 21st Avenue and Terrace Place (use spaces 41-92) , or the Wesley Place Garage on Scarritt Place at 21st Avenue (use spaces 52-170). Parking costs $8.00 per day (cash only) at these garages - look for pay boxes with space numbers on wall by the stairwell. Both garages are within three blocks of the law school.
