Alyssa M. Wilcox has joined Vanderbilt University Law School as Assistant Dean of Development and Alumni Relations. Her appointment was announced by Dean Edward L. Rubin. She replaces Jeff Ulmer, who left the law school to accept a position as Executive Director of Vanderbilt University’s National Commodore Club in July.
Wilcox previously served for four years as director of development at Purdue University’s Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, where she closed a $10 million commitment that enabled Purdue’s biomedical engineering department to become a full-fledged school. She also helped secure $13 million in funding from the state of Indiana to support the construction of a new, $25 million biomedical engineering building and an additional $7.5 million in state funding over two fiscal years to support the start-up of the school’s undergraduate program.
“Vanderbilt Law School has an extremely strong and supportive constituency of alumni and friends who support the law school with gifts of their time, skills and financial resources,” Wilcox said. “I’m looking forward to meeting many of them over the next few months and to working with all of them to position the law school for the future.”
Before joining Purdue’s development staff, Wilcox served the University of Connecticut Foundation, Inc., as director of development for the School of Pharmacy, where she raised the largest gift in the school’s history. She began her development career with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School. After her graduation from St. Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana, she volunteered for two years with the United States Peace Corps in Cameroon, West Africa, as an aquaculture extension agent. She holds an M.B.A. from the University of Connecticut.
