William M. Cohen

Biography

Bill Cohen was a prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Tennessee in Nashville for nearly 30 years. During his tenure, he prosecuted a variety of cases, including complex fraud, public corruption, civil rights, narcotics, and violent crime, and at various times served as First Assistant, Criminal Chief, Senior Litigation Counsel and Appellate Coordinator. Prior to joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Professor Cohen was a law clerk for Judge L. Clure Morton of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee. Professor Cohen has taught as a member of the Vanderbilt adjunct law faculty since 2003, teaching Trial Advocacy and Advanced Evidence and Trial Advocacy: Criminal. He has also taught at the Nashville School of Law and the National Advocacy Center and Attorney General's Advocacy Institute at the U.S. Department of Justice. He is also the co-author of Kay and Cohen, Skills & Values: Criminal Procedure.
