Bill Norton is a partner of Bradley Arant Boult Cummings in Nashville, and has practiced in the business bankruptcy area, dealing in all aspects of bankruptcy cases, creditor rights and insolvency, since beginning his legal career in 1982. Professor Norton is also the managing editor of Norton Bankruptcy Law and Practice, a 13-volume treatise on bankruptcy law published by Thomson Reuters, currently in its third edition, and co-author of a handbook entitled Norton Creditors' Rights Handbook (Thomson Reuters, 2016). He is a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy, and serves as institute manager of national seminars focusing on advanced bankruptcy issues sponsored by Norton Institutes on Bankruptcy Law. Over the course of his legal career, Professor Norton has written numerous manuscripts for seminar presentations, including presentations for the American Bar Association, the American Bankruptcy Institute, Southeastern Business Law Institute, Cumberland School of Law Annual Bankruptcy Law Seminar, National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys, Department of Justice Advanced the National Association of Credit Managers, the Mid-South Commercial Law Institute, the Memphis Bar Association Annual Bankruptcy Conference, North Carolina Bar Foundation Institute, the Western Mountain Bankruptcy Law Institute, the Conference on Finance Law, the Tennessee Bar Association, and the National Business Institute. He is a past president and Board member of the American Board of Certification, which certifies attorneys who specialize in the areas of creditor rights and bankruptcy law. He is a leader in the Business Bankruptcy Committee of the Business Section of the ABA and currently is Chair of the Subcommittee on Individual Chapter 11s. Professor Norton is a past Chair of the ADR Committee for the Nashville Bar Association and past Chair of the Board for the Nashville Conflict Resolution Center. He is a Certified Mediator by Dispute Management and is a Rule 31 Listed General Civil Mediator in Tennessee. He is the founder, former president and a past board member of the Tennessee Turnaround Management Association, and is a past president and board chair of the Mid-South Commercial Law Institute. He is a member of the Nashville, Tennessee and American Bar Associations and of the American Bankruptcy Institute.
