In honoring Juneteenth, we celebrate our country turning toward a more hopeful next chapter, rid of slavery and on the path to greater equality and racial justice for Black Americans. This day offers enormous hope and represents the promise of a country seeking out the fullest ideals of the Constitution. Yet, as is all too clear, the need for action remains. Persistent inequalities and inequities challenge us – as those engaged in the law – to pursue the goal of better, stronger civil rights, a deeper actualization of racial justice and consistent economic opportunity for Black Americans and people of color. VLS observes Juneteenth by celebrating its promise and we honor its legacy by committing to action, as our students, staff and faculty seek to work together to better ensure that the goals of our Constitution can be realized to their fullest.
