At VLS, we are incredibly excited to celebrate National First-Generation Celebration Day – and our students and graduates who represent the first members of their families to attend law school.
This day offers all of us an opportunity to acknowledge the hard work, risk-taking, ambition and talent it takes to embark on new and challenging pathways that have been closed off to others around them. It also highlights the sacrifice and support of families, teachers and communities that have helped our graduates to blaze new trails, representing a future full of the hopes and ideals of those closest to them.
Our VLS affinity organization, Opening Statement, brings together our first-generation students to recognize their contributions and express the character it takes to be the first and to take a chance at building new pathways for themselves and for those that will come after them.
