Tamara Ashford was one of 10 nominees for the 2012 Tax Notes Person of the Year by taxanalysts.com, a news website devoted to tax policy. Tamara, who joined the Tax Division of U.S. Justice Department in 2011 as deputy assistant attorney general for both appellate and review, was cited for her competence as “the Justice Department’s top appellate strategist” and her division’s success in the courts in such cases as Hall, NFIB and Historic Boardwalk Hall.
Tamara joined the Justice Department from Dewey & LeBoeuf. Earlier she was an attorney-adviser in the Tax Division and has also served as an assistant to the IRS commissioner and senior adviser to the commissioner of the IRS Large and Midsize Business Division. After earning her degree at Vanderbilt, she received her LLM in taxation from the University of Miami School of Law.
