Doe v. Montgomery County, Maryland

Joint Motion for Special Assignment Granted

The Stanton Foundation First Amendment Clinic at Vanderbilt Law School was successful in their motion on behalf of their client, Alexa Renehan, a records requester in Montgomery County, Maryland. In a motion filed jointly with the Maryland Coalition for Justice and Police Accountability, and the Washington Post and the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, the parties requested the case be specially assigned to a single judge for the pendency of the proceeding. The parties asked for this designation to promote efficiency given the case’s complex factual background and procedural posture. The motion was granted by the Montgomery Circuit Court on May 6, 2023.
