State Senator Doug Henry (BA’49), who represents Tennessee District 21, received MTSU’s Dr. Joe Nunley Memorial Award, which recognizes the accomplishments of a man or woman who served with distinction in the military, on November 19. The award is named in honor of the late Joe Nunley, an MTSU professor, author and historian who served in the U.S. Army in World War II.
Henry was honored for his service as a first lieutenant in the Army during World War II, for which he received the Philippine Independence Medal. He was also recognized for his 40-year career commitment to service in both Tennessee’s house and senate. Henry has served on the Tennessee Bicentennial Commission and is a past chair of the State Capitol Commission and of the Southern Legislative Conference. He and his wife, Loiette, have been married for 52 years.
