Vanderbilt announces 2020 cohort of Chancellor Faculty Fellows
Ricks, who is currently the Enterprise Scholar at Vanderbilt Law School, studies financial regulation. He joined Vanderbilt’s law faculty in 2012, after serving from 2009-10 as a senior policy advisor and financial restructuring expert at the U.S. Treasury Department, where he focused primarily on financial stability initiatives and capital markets policy.
Before joining the Treasury Department, Ricks was a risk-arbitrage trader at Citadel Investment Group, a Chicago-based hedge fund. He previously served as a vice president in the investment banking division of Merrill Lynch & Co., where he specialized in strategic and capital-raising transactions for financial services companies. He began his career as a mergers and acquisitions attorney at Wachtell Lipton Rosen & Katz. He holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School, where he served as the Book Reviews Chair of the Harvard Law Review, and a B.A. from Dartmouth College.
He is the author of a book, The Money Problem: Rethinking Financial Regulation, published in 2016 by the University of Chicago Press. His articles have been published in the Columbia Business Law Review, the Yale Journal on Regulation, the Journal of Financial Regulation, the Review of Banking and Financial Law and the Vanderbilt Law Review, among other venues.
Ricks is one of 10 faculty members from across the university selected for the 2020 cohort of Chancellor Faculty Fellows. Each cohort is composed of recently tenured faculty from a wide variety of disciplines and areas of expertise. Selected faculty members meet as a group during their fellowships to exchange ideas on teaching and research, with the goal of building a broader intellectual community that advances trans-institutional scholarship.
