Four 2015 graduates received Ph.D.’s in Law and Economics, and three also received their Vanderbilt J.D.’s at Commencement May 8. All were students in Vanderbilt’s Ph.D. Program in Law and Economics, co-directed by W. Kip Viscusi, University Distinguished Professor of Law, Economics and Management, and Professor of Law and Economics Joni Hersch. They are Blair Druhan Bullock, J.D./Ph.D. (dissertation: “Judicial and Agency Enforcement of Nondiscrimination Laws”), Jacob P. Byl, J.D./Ph.D. (dissertation: “Toward More Effective Endangered Species Regulation”), Benjamin J. McMichael, J.D./Ph.D. (dissertation: “Occupational Licensing and Legal Liability: The Effect of Regulation and Litigation on Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and the Health Care System”), and Samuel M. Miller, Ph.D. (dissertation: “Economic and Empirical Analysis of Contractual Dispute Resolution”). Miller earned his J.D. at Harvard Law before entering the Ph.D. program.
