In "Justice: Too Much and Too Expensive," an opinion piece by Nancy J. King, the Lee S. and Charles A. Speir Professor of Law at Vanderbilt, and Joseph Hoffmann of the Indiana University Maurer School of Law, the pair recommends a new approach to habeas cases.
Their opinion piece was published in the Sunday, April 17, 2011 edition of the New York Times.
The reforms King and Hoffmann recommend are based on their new book, Habeas for the Twenty-First Century: Uses, Abuses, and the Future of the Great Writ (University of Chicago Press) and a comprehensive study of habeas cases King completed in 2007 with colleagues Fred Cheesman and Brian Ostrom, Habeas Litigation in U.S. District Courts: Final Report, funded by the National Institute of Justice.
