At VLS, we are proud to honor Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Marking the singular contributions of Native American people in the flourishing of the country, this day offers us an opportunity to reflect on the history of Indigenous peoples, their rich and diverse traditions and cultures, and their foundational influence on the environment and natural lands.
We are also forced to reckon with the cruelties imposed upon them and the sacrifices they have made for the country. As a community of law students and lawyers, we have an obligation to understand how the law – of Tribal Nations and the federal legal system – may serve to ensure equity and justice for Indigenous communities.
