J.B. Ruhl Selected for Bellagio Center Residency

Vanderbilt Law professor J.B. Ruhl, David Daniels Allen Distinguished Chair in Law, has been selected to join the Rockefeller Foundation’s 2027 Bellagio Center Residency Program.

Based in Lake Como, Italy, the four-week residency offers participants the opportunity to unleash their creativity and advance groundbreaking work. The Bellagio Center has hosted more than 85 Nobel Laureates and notable leaders such as Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Henry Kissinger, and Maya Angelou. Bellagio seeks to inspire collaboration across sectors and professions, political affiliations, and national borders.

Professor Ruhl will spend the residency developing methods for cities to leverage Urban Ecosystems Services research for climate change adaptation. The project is a joint effort with James Salzman of the UCLA School of Law and the Bren School of Environmental Science & Management at UC Santa Barbara.

A leading expert in environmental, natural resources, and property law, Professor Ruhl ranks among the top 10 most-cited Administrative and / or Environmental Law faculty in the U.S. between 2019-2023 (Sisk et. Al). He is the Co-Director of the Program on Law & Innovation and Co-Director of the Energy, Environment & Land Use Program at Vanderbilt Law.
