Jay Angoff, Class of 1978, a longtime consumer advocate, will lead efforts to regulate insurers and insurance markets through a newly created Office of Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service.

Angoff was appointed to lead the office by DHHS Secretary Kathleen Sibelius. He has focused on insurance law, policy and regulatory compliance for much of his career. After earning his law degree at Vanderbilt in 1978, he began his career as an antitrust lawyer at the Federal Trade Commission. He then worked for Congress Watch, a lobbying organization formed by Ralph Nader, and for the National Insurance Consumer Organization, a non-profit consumer advocacy organization, before accepting a position as deputy insurance commissioner and health policy advisor to New Jersey Governor Jim Florio. He served as director of the Missouri Insurance Department from 1993 to 1998.
He earned his undergraduate degree at Oberlin College.
