Dean Chris Guthrie announced that Jeffrey Bellin has been appointed a Professor of Law at Vanderbilt Law School, effective summer 2025. Professor Bellin joins Vanderbilt from William & Mary Law School.
At Vanderbilt, Professor Bellin will teach classes related to Criminal Law and Evidence. He also joins the Branstetter Litigation & Dispute Resolution Program and Criminal Justice Program.
“Jeffrey Bellin’s demonstrated commitment to research and teaching make him an excellent fit for Vanderbilt Law,” said Dean Guthrie. “We are thrilled to have him join our community.”
Professor Bellin’s scholarship focuses on criminal law, criminal procedure, and evidence. His work has been published in the Yale Law Journal, California Law Review, Michigan Law Review, and University of Pennsylvania Law Review, among others. His scholarship is regularly cited in judicial opinions and scholarship, and relied on by policymakers.
At William & Mary, he received the Walter Williams Memorial Teaching Award for excellence in teaching from the 2014 and 2023 graduating classes. He also received a 2019 SCHEV Outstanding Faculty Award, the Commonwealth’s highest honor for faculty at Virginia’s public and private colleges and universities.
After receiving his law degree from Stanford Law School, where he was selected for Order of the Coif, Professor Bellin clerked on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and worked at the United States Attorney’s Office in Washington, D.C. He received his B.A. from Columbia University, graduating summa cum laude.
Professor Bellin is an elected member of the American Law Institute (ALI).
