Jim Beakes ’02 honored as Legal Aid Society of Mid-TN’s Volunteer of the Year

James Beakes III '02James A. Beakes III, a member of Butler Snow’s pharmaceutical and medical device, healthcare industry, and appellate and written advocacy teams, has been named 2016 Volunteer of the Year by the Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands.

Beakes earned the 2016 Volunteer of the Year award for his involvement with the Legal Aid Society’s “desktop clinic.” With the support of Butler Snow, Beakes partnered with the LAS to promote and organize a weekly virtual clinic that provides legal services to residents in rural communities in Williamson, Hickman, Cheatham and Dickson counties.

The Legal Aid Society’s Volunteer of the Year award is presented each year to a lawyer whose work has made access to justice a reality. The award recognizes long-term assistance to pro bono clients, advocacy in support of access to justice initiatives, and innovative action to make legal help available to more individuals.

Beakes earned his undergraduate degree from Duke University before earning his J.D. from Vanderbilt, where he was managing editor of the Vanderbilt Law Review. He joined Butler Snow in 2012.
