Many LL.M. students wish to apply what they learn during their year at Vanderbilt Law School in the professional environment by seeking short-term practical training and/or permanent employment upon graduation. Although this can be a challenging process, the Career Services Office is committed to providing individual assistance throughout the year. Recent Vanderbilt LL.M. graduates are employed in firms, government, corporations, non-profits, academe, and other settings in the U.S. and abroad.
The Career Services Office holds informational meetings orienting students to the legal job market in the United States, as well as individual assistance in developing a strategic plan for their job search. The Office guides students through the process of developing a strong resume and cover letters and provides opportunities for practice interviews. The Office's Resource Center provides extensive hard copy and digital materials to aid in job searches, in addition to basic business services (copy, fax, and print).
Vanderbilt students are invited to attend the International Student Interview Program (ISIP) held every January in New York. Approximately 130 employers from the United States and around the world select students for initial interviews based on the resumes they receive.
Students who are interested in public service may choose to attend the Equal Justice Works Job Fair and Conference, held in Washington, D.C., each October.
A large number of Vanderbilt LL.M. students sit for state bar exams every year immediately after they graduate. Academic advisors are available to assist students in tailoring their curriculum to meet their professional goals and interests.
“My career coach directed me to the type of law firms I should apply to because of my international background. It was really helpful to be able to just have someone who can tell you what’s up.”
