Members of the Class of 2023 Selected for Order of the Coif

Twenty members of the Class of 2023 have been selected to join the Order of the Coif. Vanderbilt’s new Order of the Coif members were announced by Amanda Rose, who holds a Cornelius Vanderbilt Chair and serves as president of the Vanderbilt Law School chapter of Order of the Coif.

“I speak for the entire faculty in offering our sincere congratulations to the newest members of the Vanderbilt Chapter of the Order of the Coif on this achievement,” said Dean Chris Guthrie.

Members of the Order of the Coif are selected by faculty approval and represent the top 10 percent of their graduating class. The Order of the Coif is a national honorary scholastic society. New members representing the Vanderbilt Law Class of 2023 include:

  • Divya Bhat of San Diego, California. Bhat is a law clerk for Judge Kea Riggs of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico in Albuquerque.
  • Elise Nicole Blegen of Kansas City, Missouri. Blegen is an associate with Gibson Dunn in New York.
  • Christopher L. Burrows of Salem, Oregon. Burrows is an associate with Stoel Rives in Portland, Oregon.
  • Elodie Orla Currier of West Hartford, Connecticut. Currier is a law clerk for Judge Jon Phipps McCalla ’74 of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Tennessee.
  • Dean Anthony DiBello of Dallas, Texas. DiBello is an associate with Kirkland & Ellis in Dallas.
  • Jake Epstein of New York City. Epstein is an associate with Darger Errante Yavitz & Blau in New York. He will serve as a law clerk for Judge Howard C. Neilson Jr. of the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah in 2024-25.
  • Anna Colleen Goodnight of Houston, Texas. Goodnight is an associate with Willkie Farr & Gallagher in New York.
  • Lynn E. Gurskey of Nashville. Gurskey is a law clerk for Judge Rebecca Grady Jennings of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky.
  • Robert Aoki Havas of Montreal, Canada. Havas is an associate with Latham & Watkins in New York.
  • William E. Lawler IV of Washington, D.C. Lawler is a law clerk for Judge Travis R. McDonough ’97 of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee.
  • Cole Glenn Merritt of Danville, California. Merritt is an associate with Cooley in Washington, D.C.
  • Jamie Caitlin Michael (BA’14) of Rogersville, Tennessee. Michael is an associate with Weil Gotshal & Manges in New York.
  • Tyler John Murry of Bedford, New Hampshire. Murry is an associate with Haynes and Boone in Dallas.
  • Stephanie Nakash of Great Neck, New York. Nakash is an associate with Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough in Nashville.
  • Maria Rose Santangelo of Hartsdale, New York. Santangelo is a law clerk for Judge Thomas A. Varlan ’81 of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee.
  • John Hunter Scott of Greensboro, North Carolina. Scott is an associate with Polsinelli in Denver.
  • Davis Price Shugrue of Chicago. Shugrue is a law clerk for Judge Stephen Alexander Vaden of the U.S. Court of International Trade.
  • Sage Tivona Snider of Saverna Park, Maryland. Snider is a law clerk for senior judges on the D.C. Court of Appeals
  • Mary Alexandra Dennard (Molly) Teague, Founder’s Medalist, of Charlotte, North Carolina. Teague is an associate with Gibson Dunn & Crutcher in New York.
  • Thomas G. Vanderbeek of Somerset, New Jersey. Vanderbeek is a law clerk to Judge Karen LeCraft Henderson of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit and will serve as a law clerk for Judge A. Marvin Quattlebaum Jr. of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit in 2024-25.
