Dean Chris Guthrie announced that Anne-Marie Moyes ’02 has been appointed an Associate Clinical Professor of Law, effective summer 2025. Professor Moyes will serve as the inaugural Clinic Director of The Gail Anderson Cañizares Innocence Clinic, which will support the exoneration of wrongfully convicted individuals in Tennessee while providing students with hands-on case experience.
“We are so very fortunate to have recruited Anne-Marie to launch the Gail Anderson Cañizares Innocence Clinic,” said Dean Guthrie. “Anne-Marie is the perfect person to lead this clinic, and I know that Anne-Marie and our students will make a meaningful difference for the clients they serve.”
Professor Moyes joins Vanderbilt Law from the University of Colorado School of Law, where she served as Executive Director of the Korey Wise Innocence Project. She began her legal career in the Metro Nashville Public Defender’s office as an Assistant Public Defender before joining the Office of the Federal Public Defender for the Middle District of Tennessee, where she spent more than a decade specializing in sentencing advocacy, direct appeals, and federal habeas litigation.
“Students will benefit tremendously from Anne-Marie’s deep experience as a practitioner and educator,” said Susan Kay, Associate Dean for Experiential Education and Clinical Professor of Law. “The clinic offers a unique opportunity to help vulnerable clients seek justice.”
Professor Moyes earned her B.A. from Johns Hopkins and her J.D. from Vanderbilt Law, where she earned the Founder’s Medal for finishing first in her class. She clerked for Judge John T. Nixon of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee.
