39 Vanderbilt Law graduates secure judicial clerkships

Thirty-nine Vanderbilt Law graduates secured 41 judicial clerkships this year with U.S. Court of Appeals judges for the Sixth, Eighth, Eleventh and D.C. Circuits; with U.S. District Court judges in Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, the Virgin Islands and West Virginia; with state Supreme Court justices in Kentucky and Tennessee; and with judges on other federal and state courts.

Vanderbilt Law graduates secured clerkships in 20 states, the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands.

Twenty-eight clerks are 2011 graduates and 11 are alumni. Overall this year, 14.1 percent of the Class of 2011 secured clerkships, and 9.1 percent of the Class of 2011 secured clerkships with Article III judges.

“Despite a difficult job market, the number of recent Vanderbilt Law graduates securing clerkships remains very high,” said Assistant Professor of the Practice of Law Michael Bressman, who directs Vanderbilt’s Clerkship Program. “Judicial clerkships are extraordinarily valuable experiences for young lawyers. We are proud that numerous Vanderbilt graduates continue to obtain clerkships throughout the nation.”
