Erin Merrick ’14 (MA’11) appointed Tennessee’s Chief Legal Counsel by Gov. Bill Lee

Erin Frankrone Merrick, Class of 2014 (MA’11), has been appointed chief legal counsel in the office of Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee, effective Sept. 1.

Merrick had previously served as Lee’s deputy legal counsel, a role she had held since 2019.

“Erin is a dedicated public servant who will lead with integrity and bring significant expertise as chief legal counsel, and I appreciate her continued service to Tennessee,” Lee said in announcing Merrick’s appointment.

Before joining the governor’s legal staff, Merrick was an assistant attorney general in the Tennessee Office of the Attorney General, where she practiced state and federal civil litigation before both trial and appellate courts.

Merrick earned her bachelor’s degree at American University before earning a master’s degree in economics and her J.D. at Vanderbilt University.
