Nick Prendergast has won the Chris Lantz Award for the Class of 2022.
The Chris Lantz Award recognizes a student in the graduating class who demonstrates a dedication to developing a sense of community among his classmates with a strong capacity for leadership and commitment to legal studies. The Class of 2011 endowed this award to honor the memory of their friend and classmate Chris Lantz.
Prendergast plans to join Simpson Thacher & Bartlett in Washington, D.C., after graduation. He worked for the firm as a summer associate in 2021.
Prendergast is the senior managing editor of the Vanderbilt Law Review, and \he was also honored with the Law Review Candidate’s Award, which is awarded by second-year staff to the third-year staff member, other than the editor in chief, who made the most significant contribution to their development as journal staff members.
His Note, “Policing, Masculinities, and Judicial Acknowledgment,” was published in the Law Review this spring.
During law school, Prendergast received the Scholastic Excellence Award for Employment Law. He served as a mentor and as president of the Co-Counsel Mentorship Program, through which upperclass students volunteer to mentor incoming 1Ls throughout their first year of law school.
Prendergast worked for the Rhode Island Office of the Attorney General as a legal intern in the Office of Civil Rights Advocate in summer 2020. As an undergraduate, he was an intern in the National Security Section of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia and for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
A native of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, Prendergast earned his B.A. in political science summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from George Washington University.
