Paige Marta Skiba has been elected chair elect of the Association of American Law Schools’ Section on Law and Economics. Professor Skiba will serve as chair elect during 2021 and assume the role of section chair in 2022.
Skiba has conducted innovative research in the area of behavioral law and economics and commercial law, particularly on topics related to her economics dissertation, Behavior in High-Interest Credit Markets. Her current research focuses on the causes and consequences of borrowing on high-interest credit, such as payday loans, auto-title loans, and pawnshops, as well as the regulation of these industries.
The Section on Law and Economics promotes economic analysis of law and legal institutions, encourages its proper use in legal education; facilitates exchange of ideas, discussion and activities among members; and makes recommendations on teaching and improvement of the law.
At Vanderbilt, Skiba is affiliated with the Ph.D. Program in Law and Economics and teaches Bankruptcy and Introduction to Behavioral Law and Economics at the law school.
