Taylor Owings ’13 won the 2013 Gellhorn-Sargentich Law Student Essay Competition, which is sponsored by the American Bar Association’s Section of Administrative Law and Regulatory Practice. The award recognizes students who write on any topic relating to administrative law.
Owings wrote her winning entry, “Identifying a Maverick: When Antitrust Law Should Protect a Low-Cost Competitor,” as her Vanderbilt Law Review Note. Her Note was published in the Law Review’s January 2013 edition. “Taylor’s piece is creative, provocative, and thoughtful–the best piece of student writing I have encountered as a professor!” said Rebecca Haw, assistant professor of law, who served as faculty reviewer for Owings’ Note.
Vanderbilt was well-represented among award winners at the Administrative Law Section’s annual meeting in November; Owings received her award at the same luncheon at which Associate Dean for Research Kevin Stack received ABA’s 2013 Annual Scholarship Award for the best published work in administrative law. “Taylor gave a terrific presentation that included a shout-out to Vanderbilt and our Regulatory Law course,” Stack said.
